The beaches of Barcelona |
Barcelona is one of the great cities, known as much for its modernist architecture as for its beaches. The city’s beaches offer all the right conditions and services to enjoy the seafront or a dip in the sea.
At 4.2 km long, Barcelona’s beaches make up one of the largest open spaces available to the city’s inhabitants. Just a few minutes away from any point in the city, the San Sebastian beaches have all the necessary amenities and services and, during the Merçe festival, offer a spectacular firework display. Barceloneta is undoubtedly the most popular beach and has a different feel to it, with its straight, gay and mixed nudist areas. Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella and Nova Mar Vella are Barcelona’s new beaches, created since the 1992 Olympic Games. At Nueva Icaria, you will find all necessary facilities for playing beach volleyball. As mentioned, Barcelona’s nudist beaches are Barceloneta - with a gay crowd on the left margin of the beach - and Mar Bella.
